I'm stupidly in love with this book and it takes a LOT to get me to read a book (even short ones like this).
About the movie, I'm not gonna go into specifics, but I just didn't like a lot of the changes they made (ending, especially, as well as the Other Father's fate.). Rest of it was great and the visuals (not the 3D, the actual stop-motion) blew my MIND.
Anyway, the painting! This was done on a canvas the size of my hand; never worked this small before with acrylics. I actually resorted to use pins and needles (har har) to paint some details.
You captured the creepy vibe of both the book and the (few) clips of the movie I have seen, as well as the movie's style. Lovely work. This makes waiting for the movie a little less painful.

Ooo, I like the vivid colors. It's got that consistent storybook feel. ....d-damn, took me a moment to see the evil figure. ; Nice subtle way you worked that in.
Pins & needles. I've done similar techniques, but with glues. Very resourceful of ye~!
I know nothing of the book, but I wish to see the movie.
Now, should I read it first, then see the movie? I assume the book's better, as that's almost always the case... So should I wait till after the movie, as to not ruin the movie for me first? That's a silly questions--I'll wait I think.
Ah, this is really good! The needles in the air, the mother's shadow, and the texture of the painting make this picture amazing. C: I loved this book too. I don't mind the changes in the movie so much because I never expected it to be made into one. I mean, it never seemed that popular. Stop-motion was an interesting choice for the movie. Whenever I read the book I always picture a black-and-white old fashion styled movie. :0
